the butterfly blues

Who really reads blogs to learn anyway? Not me. I rather just write stuff like haikus about velcro magnets and other stuff no one cares about. Have you ever thought about a sad butterfly? That seems like something a pessimist would talk about. What should I write today? Let's talk about free checking! Neh. I know. "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Uses every letter in the English language. Now that's awesome. Or women blink nearly twice as much as men... which actually explains a lot. Or-- Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite. Now that is stuff I wanna know.

Baybay names....Latasha or Cello?

-----------------------Above are images that popped up when I googled the name Latasha. I was trying to see if the book Freakanomics held true--- does a childs name effect their outcome in life? I heard some people thee other day talkin about lookin through a baby name book to find the perfect name. Doesn't that seem a lil' boring? I think it's fun to check out movie credits... or if you want some more interesting pics look at foreign film movie credits. I found a good one thee other day on a Kung Fu film. I'm gonna name my boy Xiang Ti Canull... maybe. Sometimes when I'm playing games online I'll write down names of people I'm playing in Turkey or Sweden or where ever they are acting like their from. Where else does one find good names? fruit? instruments? or sometimes the JUMBLE in the newspaper has good formations. Some actor named their kid Pilot Inspektor...

Rut Row-- lil secrets about some home owners associations

You betta watch yo self-- here's an article on some HOA stuff

A gardening violation
. That's what landed Jeffrey DeMarco in hot water with his Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., homeowners association a few years ago: He planted too many roses on his four-acre property. Peeved, the association fined him monthly and sat back as the bills mounted. Then it placed a lien on his property and threatened to foreclose, according to DeMarco.

He took the board to court, but lost on the grounds that he had violated the association's architectural design rules. (In addition to planting roses, he also had regraded the site.) In the end, he got stuck with the association's $70,000 legal bill and lost his home to the bank. "Mr. DeMarco came into the community and wanted to step outside the rules," says Walt Ekard, the association manager. "That's a detriment to everyone."

MY SUMMER JOB - Garage Saleing

here's a pic of a local garage saler last Saturday in Broad Ripple.

Article from todays New York Times, "William Stratas, author of ''Garage Sales for Profit and Fun'' (Garage Sales Promotions North America, 1993, $9.75), said: ''The key is to operate like any successful retail business in a competitive market. On a summer weekend, you're likely to be competing with several other sales in the region for the same pool of shoppers.''

One way to capture market share is to advertise cleverly and aggressively. ''Give yourself a trademark or identity, like 'The mother of all garage sales,' '' Mr. Stratas said. ''And don't limit your signage to photocopied flyers on 8-by-11 paper. Use colorful posters or clusters of balloons. Go big.'"

Tibbs--- What else is going on at 11:42?

pic by some dude named JJ-- intro to the movie last Sunday at the Tibb's drive-in

thee history of the drive-in movie: "After nailing a screen to trees in his backyard, he set a 1928 Kodak projector on the hood of his car and put a radio behind the screen, testing different sound levels with his car windows down and up. Blocks under vehicles in the driveway enabled him to determine the size and spacing of ramps so all automobiles could have a clear view of the screen. Following these experiments, he applied August 6, 1932 for a patent of his invention, and he was given U.S. Patent 1,909,537 on May 16, 1933"

Broad Ripple Art Fair Weekend

Man time passes quick... it seems like I just went to the last 10 yesterday. Hopefully the weather will let up so I can get me some kettle corn and I can run into erin and her new- one year-old baybay. The fair hours of operation are Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 10-5.

I'm RICK JAMES B%^**!-- sorry this is a family blog

Speaking of brick houses-- do you have -- or know someone who has a decent house with some ugly bricks? I've found thee answer. I 've seen a number of houses that would be decent with a better color of brick. I ran into a new company at some state fair home show I went to that stains bricks. Or if you have a brick pattern- with a color in the pattern you don't like-- they will color correct those specific bricks. This is often the better alternative to painting-- since the dang paint will eventually peel. The company is called

goin green

"There is an advertisement on television for bottled water that is better for the environment because the plastic bottle, a petroleum-based product, is thinner and has less plastic in it. It seems to me that filtered tap water from the kitchen sink poured into a travel tumbler would leave a smaller carbon footprint. Why is a plastic bottle being advertised as "green" when the bottle is not needed in the first place? To sell water of course.

There are green builders too. They build using materials and methods that are kinder to the environment, and design buildings and homes that consume less energy. They should be applauded for doing so. There is another way to look at it though. In my market area there are many vacant homes in need of repair. I am no expert but it seems that if we recycled existing homes instead of building new homes there would be less of an environmental impact. It would also be better for the already established neighborhoods to have people living in every home and they might be more affordable for first-time home buyers who are still in danger of being priced out of the market."

zoo camp!

I remember the year me and whip had broken legs during the same summer and we were pretty fun to hang out with-- we just road around on the mini boat in Culver 90% of the summer days with trash bags over our casts. I also remember goin to the Indianapolis Zoo camp the remainder of my broken leg summer! Not really sure what we did there-- I feel like they showed us the behind the scenes of the zoo and made us pick up ape poop. Here's a pic of the zoo from last weekend. Today would be another good zoo day.... but i think we'll go to the drivin range instead over by riverside. Anyone no any other good golf driving ranges in indianapolis?

Tooonight... tooonight.. tooonighT! waa oOH!

What to do tonight? The Broad Ripple Spring Gallery tour kicks off tonight between 5-10-- usually lasts until the cookies and wine and winos are gone. My favorite spot used to be Happy Trails... They had the best cookies and groupies. But since their move we'll have to see which gallery kicks bootie this year?

a mini marathon is exactly 13.1 miles.. a lil lesson I learned when sprinting to the 13 mile marker -- with my body tingling - feeling like I was about to pass out or puke-- only to find out when reaching it-- the finish line is at 13.1--- My runnin buddy made it to the 13.1 and puked at 13.1001. I almost puked during the race-- but that was due to the "sports gels" you take to give you energy. I definitely had a gag reflex every time I had to ingest the apple pie flavored warm gel. euuhhhhhh.... that day I knew I would never put my body through that pain again, ever. But it's been almost a week now and the pain has faded, and I think I wanna do it next year.

Going Green in Indy

I reckon I'm the first realtor in Indiana to "go green" publicly. I'm pretty sure there are others still in the closet. There are a number of ways I've attempted to be as green as possible.... but I'm pretty sure there's always something I haven't thought of. So let me know if you can recommend another way I could go green in my profession?

I do showings of properties via bicycles (weather permitted)

I use a wind and solar powered company to host my website

I have figured out my carbon footprint and have bought carbon units to cover my footprint.

I use e-docs

I use recycled paper when needed

I drive a fuel efficient vehicle

and I use a portion of my annual proceeds to support local environmental agencies.
